Ultrasound and later radiograph showed only one puppy, so a planned c-section was arranged.  Often single puppy litters can have pups that are too large and difficult to whelp because there are no other puppies to limit rtheir growth, and it definitely looked like a good sized pup in there.  Birth weight was 9 oz, which is in the normal range, so she might have been whelped without any problem, but everyone agreed it was the right decision.
