The Value In Vertical Pedigrees

And Why Siblings Matter.

When breeders talk about pedigrees, in general what they are thinking about is the typical horizontal pedigree which shows the parents, grandparent, great-grandparents, etc. laid out from left to right behind a current individual or litter.
Because conformation titles are an easy 'trait' to identify, and many breeders seem to focus on titles as a primary breeding criteria, we are going to use titles to identify dogs in a pedigree.  Specific names are not important here mainly because this is just to show how this selection process looks in both a traditional horizontal pedigree vs a vertical one.
We know in the real world, titles are not an inherited trait, but for the sake of this example, titles, major points, and disqualifications  will be used though they are inherited.
These examples are fictional pedigrees created using randomly generated criteria to mimic actual pedigrees.  Any resemblance to any actual pedigrees with titles is coincidental.

The below pedigree is a three generation example, where the breeder has obviously chosen to select the best titled individuals in each generation.
